FF14 Evercold release date window, jobs, trailers, and latest news

The upcoming FF14 8.0 expansion marks a significant chapter in the MMO’s ongoing saga, as game director Naoki ‘Yoshi-P’ Yoshida introduces what he refers to as ‘The Godless Realms Saga.’ This expansion invites players to traverse the Fourth, one of the many reflections of the Source, where they will confront a chilling flood of ice threatening the land.

Yoshida has characterized Final Fantasy 14 Evercold as an experience that elevates players to new heights—both in terms of gameplay and narrative depth. The in-game level cap will rise by ten, alongside sweeping changes to various systems, including a revamped weekly rewards structure, enhancements to character creation, and the introduction of ‘Evolved Mode,’ a fresh approach to gameplay for every job.

FF14 Evercold release date window

The FF14 Evercold release date is set for January 2027. While an exact date remains undisclosed, Yoshida confirmed during Fanfest Anaheim that the eagerly awaited expansion will launch at the beginning of 2027. Players can anticipate Patch 7.56, which will serve as a precursor to the new storyline, arriving on September 8, 2026, creating a brief four-month wait for fans.

FF14 Evercold trailers

As of now, a single trailer for FF14 Evercold has been released, unveiled at FF14 Fanfest NA in Anaheim on April 24, 2026. The trailer opens with a stirring voiceover: “Hold fast to what you must, and meet your fate without fear. Go forth. Discover. Unite the stars unto one. Let none bar your path.” It teases the return of beloved characters Estinien and Alphinaud, alongside new figures, including several Au Ra and a mysterious hooded woman.

The narrative hints at a world where frost has compelled humanity to seek refuge in the skies, with floating islands serving as sanctuaries. Early concept art suggests a blend of Norse influences in architectural design, alongside whimsical elements like a race of small, bipedal cats reminiscent of Monster Hunter’s palicos. Additionally, the promise of colossal arcane titans roaming the frozen landscapes adds a layer of intrigue.

FF14 Evercold Evangelion crossover

Among the most exciting announcements for the expansion is the collaboration with the iconic anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Yoshida, a self-proclaimed “Evangelion otaku,” acknowledges the weight of expectations to deliver an experience worthy of this milestone. Following tradition, players can expect these crossover elements to unfold in patches 8.1, 8.3, and 8.5.

New FF14 Evercold jobs

The Evercold expansion will introduce two new jobs: one designated as a Tank and the other as a Ranged Physical DPS, both of which are original creations for FF14. While specific details remain under wraps, speculation is rife, especially given Yoshida’s choice of attire during the Fanfest reveal—a t-shirt featuring the A Realm Reborn antagonist Rhitahtyn sas Arvina, captioned “Guess Who’s Back?” This could hint at a potential greatshield user or a dual-wielding build.

FF14 Evolved Mode vs Reborn Mode

A notable transformation in Evercold is the introduction of Evolved Mode and Reborn Mode, representing a comprehensive reimagining of the core battle system. Players will have the option to embrace this change or continue with the familiar Reborn Mode. Evolved Mode streamlines class mechanics, offering fewer skills and more adaptable rotations, thereby enhancing player freedom and moving away from the traditional “two-minute meta” of party-wide buffs. In contrast, Reborn Mode allows players to maintain their established playstyle, although it will not be available for the new jobs.

While some Evolved Jobs will retain similarities to their Reborn counterparts, others, such as Dragoon and Bard, will undergo significant changes. Both modes will share job levels and gear, with the flexibility to switch between them outside of combat. Evolved Jobs will learn skills at different intervals, aiming to refine core rotations by level 50 before evolving further.

FF14 Evercold story

Details regarding the Evercold storyline are still emerging, but Yoshida has indicated that players will embark on journeys through the reflections. Those who have completed Dawntrail’s patch MSQ will recall the Ascian Halmarut’s ominous declaration of “the great withering to come,” a statement that resonates with the silence left in the wake of the star’s will.

This, coupled with the overarching narrative arc dubbed ‘The Godless Realms Saga,’ suggests that the absence of Hydaelyn and Zodiark may be destabilizing the reflections or severing their connection to the Source. Armed with the Key obtained during Dawntrail, players will traverse these alternate realities, seeking ways to reconnect the worlds, a quest that may only begin in Evercold, with further developments anticipated in future expansions.

FF14 Evercold level cap

The level cap in Final Fantasy 14 Evercold will rise to 110, an increase of ten from the previous expansion, Dawntrail. Players will need to own Evercold to progress beyond level 100, although they will have the option to reach this new cap before diving into the expansion’s narrative. As per previous expansions, it is expected that the new jobs will start at level 90 once unlocked.

FF14 Evercold content

As for the content that Evercold will deliver, while many specifics will be unveiled closer to the launch date, a broad overview has emerged. Players can look forward to a level cap increase from 100 to 110, new zones—likely totaling six based on past expansions—and a similar number of dungeons, approximately six through the main story quest and two for endgame content.

Additionally, players can expect three new trials, an eight-player raid series typically released in three parts (likely patches 8.0, 8.2, and 8.4), each featuring four encounters. The much-anticipated Evangelion 24-player alliance raids will likely debut in patches 8.1, 8.3, and 8.5. Furthermore, at least one new ultimate raid will challenge the most skilled players.

Updates will also extend to FF14’s core systems, including PvP, FATEs, Treasure Hunts, and The Hunt, alongside a plethora of new gear and crafting recipes. The Tomestone rewards system is undergoing a revamp, shifting focus from daily to weekly goals, with Yoshida hinting at the possibility of catching up on any missed weekly Tomes from the previous week.

As details continue to unfold, further updates are expected at Fanfest Berlin on July 25 and Fanfest Tokyo on October 31, 2026. In the meantime, players are encouraged to stay informed about server status and system requirements, which are anticipated to remain unchanged for PC users with the launch of Evercold.
